Fourth Grade Art Program
The fourth grade students receive a very exciting and intriguing lesson on Egyptian artifacts, their history, the Egyptian customs, along with a view into the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Once they have studied this vital part of our world's history, they create pieces of artwork of their own that include how to write in Egyptian Heiroglyphs while designing their own burial masks and Sarcaphogus.
King Tut was crowned King of Egypt at the young age of 9 years old, which is the age of most of the fourth grade students. This impresses them, of course. King Tut was not as much an important King of his time, but due to the exciting discovery of his tomb, still intact, he became a famous King to the rest of the world. His tomb was discovered in 1922, the same year Mrs. Christiansen's mother was born, which was 3,000 years after his death. The artisans of that time were impressively skilled and we can learn so much from them as well as use them as inspiration.
What else?
Learning about Egyptian artifacts and their importance is only one area of study during the fourth grade year of Art. A few of the other lessons are on; Contemporary art paintings, clay sculpting, altered book art to create their own poetry and illustrations, line expression to depict optical illusions and texture and creating the look of three-dimensionality in graphic design.
